MAYFAIR PULSE Early Spring 2009
This usually means spending more time outside. Do not let these good times be spoiled by some of the common dangers found outside.
1. Hit by car - keep your pet properly supervised and leashed.
2. Garbage ingestion - many pets nosh on undigestible and/or toxic items found outside.
3. Heat prostration - pets can only release excess heat by panting or sweating through their paws. Provide adequate shade and water at all times. Pets may also be susceptible to sunburn.
4. Mosquitoes, fleas, ticks - affect pets and their people. Speak with your favorite Mayfair pet healthcare professional about prevention and treatment. Call 773.478.1868.

ASKED RECENTLY...
Why does my pet's dental prophylaxis cost more than my own?
Some pets will let you examine their teeth. Most will not. Anesthesia is required to do a complete examination of the mouth and a proper dental prophlaxis.
Safe anesthesia requires a complete physical examination, bloodwork, iv catheters, fluids, monitoring, and inhalation anesthesia. Your dentist does not have to worry about these issues because most work is done with local anesthetics.
Regular dental care is important for your pet's health because dental plaque and tartar allow bacteria from your mouth to enter the bloodstream. These bacteria then travel to the heart, liver, and kidneys and cause disease.
We all need regular dental care for a long, healthy, and painfree life.
